First Communion Instruction

In Holy Communion, God refreshes the incredible relationship that He initiates with us at our Baptism. The shared Word, bread, and wine of Holy Communion nourish our faith and renew us for lives of service. At Hope Lutheran Church, all 5th graders are invited to partake in the celebration of first communion.

First Communion Instruction (preparation classes) is a time for parents and students to learn together about what communion means for their lives. Instruction is provided two Sunday afternoons prior to Maundy Thursday and families choose the one of times.

The instruction involves parents and students working together through a variety of hands-on learning stations that will educate the family about how Lutherans recognize the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The goals for our sessions are:

1. To lead students to an understanding of Holy Communion as a sacrament of forgiveness, love, unity and thanksgiving.
2. To help students know Jesus is a real person who lived and died for us.
3. To build student's awareness of the depth of faith and what it means to be a child of God.
4. To establish a good relationship among child, parents and the church family.

It is very important for parents and students to attend together.

Students will be invited to receive their first communion during the 7:00pm, April 5, Maundy Thursday worship service. Following the service, all first communicants and their families are invited to a reception in their honor.

If you are not able to attend either of the First Communion Instruction events, or if you have questions, please contact Kathryn, kkingsley@fargohope.org or 701-235-6629, x323.

Sundaes on Sunday

Happens in September

North Campus 3rd Graders; South Campus 2nd Graders

Each fall as the school year begins we partner with parents and present new Bibles to their 2nd or 3rd grade child. We celebrate this important step in each child's faith journey with ice cream sundaes!

Honoring the Promise Events

In the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, parents promise to practice the responsibilities of the Christian life for and with their child until they are able to make those promises for themselves.  The promises parents make are made in partnership with the Church.  Hope Lutheran partners with parents to pass on the Christian faith in their home.

As partners, we provide resources for you the parent, to mark significant milestones in your child's faith journey. We call these resources, "Honoring the Promise," events.
