Good Company Mission
To promote Christian fellowship, among members of Hope Lutheran in a social, small group setting by encouraging hospitality and service to others.
"Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:2
"Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4:9-10
Good Company Season
The season begins in September, ends in May and gathers on either Friday or Saturday night (or both) depending on the number of guests, their preference that month and the number of hosts available.
When the schedule is finalized, members are notified via email so they can begin planning for their host month.
Two weeks prior to the scheduled event, an email is sent asking members to RSVP stating whether they can attend and whether they can host that month.
Attendees are divided among the host homes in groups of 6-8.
Guests are rotated so they potentially have dinner with a different set of people each month, affording them the opportunity to meet and get to know the greatest number of people.
Preplanned menus with attached recipe assignments and detailed event information are then emailed to the hosts and their guests.
The host is usually responsible for providing the entrée and each guest is assigned a recipe to prepare and bring.
The same menu and recipes are used for each host home, thereby giving all members a common point of discussion.
Recipes are generally easy to follow and upon request, assigned according to varying skill levels. However, attempting something new and challenging is encouraged!
Good Company Members...
- are encouraged to personally extend an invitation to anyone they feel would enjoy Christian fellowship with Hope Lutheran members in a social setting.
- should expect to host once during the year. Willingness to serve others is a key attribute and ensures everyone has the opportunity to serve and to be served.
- plan to host a dinner. Nothing special is required to host. Just space to seat 6-8 people, some dinnerware, utensils and maybe a napkin or two! We ask hosts to provide water with the meal and coffee after the meal.
If a guest is unable to attend at the last minute, they are responsible for ensuring their portion of the meal still arrives or they're asked to find a replacement that can provide the assigned dish.
There is no obligation to attend every month but this is the best way to get to know everyone in the group and fosters an environment of caring and commitment.
