Wellspring for the World
We Are Celebrating!
The goal of building one well was so generously answered that enough money was raised to build TWO wells! As of May 1, 2009 over $18,000 was raised. Thank you for your generosity!
In April 2010, while fight a flood in F/M area, the people of Hope Lutheran raised enough money to build another one and a half wells!
Water. It flows into our homes and then out again. We think very little about it. It's relatively cheap, and yet it's an absolute necessity for life. What would we do without it? What would we do if there wasn't enough?
Unfortunately that's the case in too many places; there's not enough water. And because of water scarcity people are literally dying, and unable to climb out of extreme poverty.
But we are changing that!
In fact, this change is our responsibility and our joy. Jesus said, "out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water." Our faith leads to action. Our work serves those in need and proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Working with a local organization called "Wellspring for the World" we had a goal to dig one well in the country of Ghana.
The people of Hope Lutheran are generous, loving and caring. They are committed to expanding the Kingdom of God. They are encouraging all to know the love of Jesus Christ.
All these statements shine true in your response to our Wellspring commitment. Our goal was to raise $9,000 which will provide the funding needed to dig one well for those in need of water. We intended to ask you to give over the course of two Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. In an ironic twist of fate, due to area flooding, we only asked you to give at best one time. But our over-abundance of water did not stop you!
"Dear Hope Lutheran Church,
Thank you for the wonderful gift you made to Wellspring for the World to be used for digging wells in Africa. We now have seven wells operating in Mali, Africa, nine in Ghana, Africa, and now four more in process in Ghana. Your gift has helped make this possible. Mali and Ghana are in the northwest sector of Africa. Each well provides clean safe water for 300-400 people. As soon as each well starts pumping, their child death rate drops in half.
We are thrilled to announce that our water themed art piece, Red River Wellspring, may now be viewed anytime in the entry way at the new downtown Fargo Public Library at 102 3rd Street N in Fargo, ND. The art piece was funded in total by Gate City Bank. The money you have given goes to wells and water projects.
Again, thank you from the Wellspring for the World Board of Directors."
Sincerely,
Peggy A. Stordahl
