TOT Faith Steps

TOT, designed for children 2 years old ( as of Sept. 1 of each year), is based on the belief that young children will readily accept that which is within the realm of their interests and abilities, and is presented simply, concisely, and with a great deal of repetition. God loves us and it makes Him happy when we share, help, and love one another. Tots are capable of absorbing these basic ideas through the use of finger plays, songs, pictures and activities. While some experts question the capability of this age group to understand ideas, such as sharing, we believe in planting seeds of Christian concepts early so that they may grow and mature, as the child grows and matures.

TOT has three main themes. Each theme is presented concisely, simply, and with a great deal of repetition.

God Loves Us
God is our "Heavenly Father" and our "Father in Heaven." He loves us so much that He created the world and everything in it just for us. We recognize creation as God's work and respond with thankfulness.

Jesus Loves Us
Jesus is the Son of God. We are special to Jesus and He loves us very much.

We Love Because He Loves Us
We are able to love because God loves us. God wants us to love Him and to love others. He gave us skills which can be used to help others. We can show our love for Him in everything we do.

Child Safe Practices

God has given us a great responsibility to care for our children! The creation of a safe, secure environment for our children is of utmost importance (Matthew 18:1-6). Faith Steps (Sunday School) enrollment continues to grow. In 2006 we had just over 1,200 students (TOT – 4th grade) enrolled in Faith Steps with over 150 adults and young adults teaching these young people each week. It is impossible for every volunteer to know every parent (guardian) who’s in attendance at church every Sunday, Wednesday or Friday. For these reasons child safe practices are in place at Hope Lutheran Church.

All parents (guardians) of all children (ages TOT – 2nd grade) are required to check in and check out their children from their Faith Steps classes each week. We are using a two-tag system using photo identification cards.

Children in the 3rd grade and above may be released without parent pick-up if a release from is signed at registration time.The intent of these safe practices is for the safety and well-being of the families and the children God has entrusted to our care.
